City Councilor Andy Vargas, master of ceremonies for the breakfast, offered some sobering statistics about homelessness in Massachusetts – a state that has a higher-than-average median income.
On a cold night in January, Massachusetts had 21,135 homeless people, he said. On June 17, 3,811 families were in homeless shelters, according to Vargas.
The average age of homeless people, he said, is 8.
